What’s New

Our summer started with a BANG! On June 18th at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base, we attended the first Twilight Cub Scout Day Camp.  For some of our Pack, this was not the first time at day camp but it was found to be more enjoyable this year because of the new time. When the scouts were asked what was the most fun, overwhelmingly it was the “Egg Drop”.  It’s not sure what was more fun...seeing who’s egg survived or who’s egg made the biggest SPLAT!!

We went from dropping eggs from 50 feet in the air to learning about safety on our bikes, roller skates, and razor scooters in July. At Twila Reid Park in Anaheim, over 40 scouts and siblings from several different Packs learned about how to choose the right bike, how to fit their helmets properly, and what is the safest way to ride their chosen equipment. With the help of family, friends, and Scout leaders, all passed the obstacle course and received their official card stating that they had done their best!!

Just when we thought we had our fill of fun and excitement for the summer, August proved to be even more fun-filled than July.

Mutiny was not the order of the day but everyone that chose to “walk the plank” earned their swimming belt loops and became a Scout certified Beginning Swimmer at our Pack Pool Party.  Who knew our Pack had the bravest and strongest swimmers?  Even the adults were surprised that their Scout passed that vigorous swim test.  The gleam of happiness that day was seen on not only the Scouts’ faces but that of the adults too!

We finished off our Summer by celebrating the 100 years of Scouting while having a great day at Evergreen Park.  Find a Clue! was our theme and it helped the Scouts with not only fun and teamwork but with geography.  Each coded clue sent the Scouts to a different country where they had to complete a task such as the Elephant Walk across Africa.  When they completed their tasks, they all became certified Cub Scout Private Investigators with official ID card.

The boys can’t wait to see what else is yet to come.  We have plans for a great year of camping, train trips, archery training, hikes, and much, much more!!!!!
